Terms of service
What you can expect from us, and what we ask of you. Written to be read, not skimmed. Last updated October 30, 2026.
Estimates and approval
- Diagnosis and the estimate are free. For a drop-off, that means a hardware test and a diagnosis on the bench, then a call with what is wrong and a firm price.
- You get a firm number before any work. Nothing is charged until you approve it. If we find something else while working, we stop and ask before going further.
- If a repair is not worth doing, we say so. There is no charge for that advice.
Your data
- You are responsible for having a backup before any repair. Repairs can involve drives and installs where data is at risk, and we cannot guarantee data on a failing device.
- If you want us to back your data up first, ask when you drop off; it is a separate, quoted step.
- Data recovery is quoted after a free evaluation, and if we cannot recover your data you do not pay for the attempt. Recovered data goes onto a drive you provide or one we supply.
- We treat what is on your computer as private, open only what the job needs, and remove working copies when the job is done. See the privacy policy.
Drop-offs and pickups
- We work from a home-based shop in St. Albert; drop-offs and pickups are by appointment only.
- Most repairs are back the same or next day once approved. Parts that must be ordered can add a few days, and we tell you when we quote.
- If a bill for work we have done is unpaid, we may keep the equipment until it is paid, as Alberta’s Possessory Liens Act allows.
- Equipment left with us for more than 90 days after we tell you it is ready, without arrangements, is considered abandoned and may be recycled or disposed of to recover costs. We will have tried to reach you first, and if a bill is still unpaid, any sale follows the steps in that Act.
Remote support
- Sessions are by appointment. You start the session, you can see everything we do, and you can end it at any moment. Nothing stays installed when it ends.
- We never ask for passwords, banking details or gift cards, and we never call out of the blue. If someone does, it is not us.
- Remote time is billed in the increments quoted when you book; if the problem turns out to need hands on the machine, we stop and book a drop-off instead.
After the repair
- Parts carry their manufacturer’s warranty, which we help you use.
- Software problems caused after the repair by new infections, updates or changes are new work, quoted like any other.
Websites, apps and hosting
- Every project starts with a free call and a written quote. Work begins when you approve the quote; larger projects are billed in stages agreed in the quote.
- You own what we build for you once it is paid for: the site, the app, the accounts and the domain, registered in your name.
- Hosting packages are yearly and cover domain, hosting, email, security and the support described on the hosting page. We host only sites we build or maintain. Renewal notices come before the year ends; a package that is not renewed is taken offline after a grace period and we help you move it if you ask.
- Content you give us to publish is yours, and you confirm you have the right to use it.
Payment
- Repairs are paid at pickup or when remote work is completed. We take Visa, Mastercard, Interac, Apple Pay, PayPal, e-Transfer, Cash.
- Invoices for business accounts and hosting are due as shown on the invoice. Overdue accounts may pause further work until settled.
Limits
We do careful work and stand behind it, but we are a small business and our responsibility for any job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job. We are not responsible for data on a device that was already failing, for loss caused by delays outside our control, or for the actions of software and services we did not build.
The usual
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and Canada. If something here is unclear, ask; we would rather explain than argue. If these terms change, the date at the top changes, and a job already underway stays under the terms you agreed to.
